Notes: Millie is a young American Staffordshire Terrier, about three years old. She currently weighs in at 53 pounds. She is somewhat house trained but is not leash trained. Millie is also selective about her dog friends and will need to meet any potential canine housemates before adoption. She is very active and should probably not live with small children. She is hoping for a forever family with a big fenced yard where she can run off her energy and have fun with her toys.

Tappahannock Essex County Animal Shelter (TECAS) does not do same day adoptions. You must fill in an Adoption Application Form. Your application will be reviewed and we will telephone the applicant, usually within 72 hours, to let you know that your application has been approved or denied.

- Every new owner of a pet adopted from Essex County Animal Shelter shall have the pet sterilized within thirty days of the pet turning six months of age, or within thirty days if the pet is over six months of age.
- Out of state adoptions must be spayed or neutered before leaving Virginia.
- Return of the proper paperwork (sterilization and rabies certificates) to is required within seven days of sterilization.
- State law requires that all dogs and cats be vaccinated for rabies.
